Kabmdi Kalai (The Trembling Wrist)

Suphnay Wich Tusee Milay Assan Noon
(I met You in my dreams (Divine Beloved))

Assi Dha Galwakdi pai
(I ran to embrace you, but)

Nira Noor Tussi Hath Naa Aaye
(You were pure effulgence, beyond my reaching hand)

Sadi Kambdi Rahi Kalai
(All I am left with is a trembling wrist)

  1. This is the one you mentioned! This is a Sufi/Punjabi couplet? I recognised the word effulgence, Noor (Nur, in Farsi & Arabic). This word is in the Punjabi vocabulary? Or this a hybrid like in Hindi's...... 'dua manghta'

  2. Yes, Natasha, this is the one. Punjabi has many words from Farsi and Arabic and there are plenty of hybrids too. Hindi has morphed into Hindustani for the common man, which also contains many words from Farsi and Arabic.
