Humne dekhi hai in aankhon ki mehkati khushbu
I have seen the perfumed scent of these eyes
Hath say choo kay isay rishton ka ilzaam na do
Do not touch it and accuse it of a relationship
sirf ehsaas hai ye, rooh se mehsoos karo
This is only a sentiment, feel it with your soul
pyaar ko pyaar hi rehne do,koi naam na do
Let love remain love, do not give it a name
pyaar koi bol nahi, pyaar awaaz nahi
Love is not a voice, love is not a sound
ek khamoshi hai, sunti hai kaha karti hai
It is a silence that listens and speaks (silently)
na ye bujhti hai na rukti hai, na thehri hai kahin
It can not be extinguished, stopped nor stayed
noor ki boond hai, sadiyon se baha karti hai
It is a drop of effulgence that has flowed eternally
sirf ehsaas hai yerooh se mehsoos karo
This is only a sentiment, feel it with your soul
pyaar ko pyaar hi rehne do
koi naam na do
humne dekhi hai
un aankhon ki mehakti khushboo
haath se chhoo ke
ise rishton ka ilzaam na do
humne dekhi hai
muskuraahat si khili rehti hai, aankhon mein kahin
Somewhere in my eyes a smile remains in bloom
aur palkon pe ujale se, jhuke rehte hain
And my eyelashes are shaded by brilliance
Honth kuchh kehte nahi, kaanpte honthon pe magar
Lips say nothing, but on (my) quivering lips
kitne khaamosh se afsaane, ruke rehte hain
Untold numbers of epics take residence
sirf ehsaas hai ye rooh se mahsoos karo
pyaar ko pyaar hi rehne do
koi naam na do
humne dekhi hai
un aankhon ki mehakti khushboo
haath se chhoo ke
ise rishton ka ilzaam na do
humne dekhi hain

Rajiv ji, fine translation..didn't know it was 'saha karti hai', always thought it was 'kaha karti hai'..but I guess saha karti hai makes sense, especially after, pyar koi bol nahi, pyar awaz nahi...
ReplyDeleteI guess the word 'untold' got placed by mistake in the last 'sirf ehsaas hai' line..
You caught that, Lakshmi ji? :-) I put down "saha" in error, but then decided not to correct it. Thanks for pointing out the "untold." I am fixing it.
ReplyDeleteon second thought,'kaha karti hai' does make sense after all...alluding to love being silent, and heard and spoken (or the other way around) without words and without being voiced...
ReplyDeletehow do we perceive our selves in our thoughts r dreams .. shapeless .. voiceless. timeless .. if deep selfless ... if it is the same with someone then he is our beloved ...true love deeply expressive without senses... this is the first movie i watched continuously twice even iam poor in hindi ... i have been searching months about the meaning of this song ... ..... moon radiates the light of sun (gulzar) to us ...... khanna ji ur the moon hatsoff for ur translation
ReplyDeletei can only congratulate u by my SILENCE!!
Undeserved praise, Vamsy ji, but I am glad I could share my understanding. Thank you.
